I don’t think I’m enough of a music geek to get this, but it’s an amusing quiz:

Your result for What’s your key signature?…

C# Minor

C Sharp. C sharp run. You’d only know I was reusing this joke from C# Major’s headline if you cheated.

Congratulations, you’re C-Sharp Minor, a tricky little bastard of a key, if I do say so myself. Considering the press time that C# Minor’s relative major of E Major gets, you’d expect this key to get more airtime in the musical scene. Alas, it is not to be. The key is a little devil, being at least somewhat difficult to play on almost every instrument. Guitars can shred through E Major, but the base chords for C# Minor are just a bit harder. Pianos can try E, but this key has them fumbling all over the place between the root on a black key and random white keys everywhere else. And we won’t even get started on the poor woodwind players.

You’re probably a bastard as well, playing pranks on people and selecting all the dumb answers you could in the quiz you just took. Don’t lie, you did that on purpose, didn’t you? Even if you didn’t tone it down, asshole.

SONG EXAMPLE: Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin (That Ricky Martin was a bastard too, you know)

INTERESTING TIDBIT:

* Really the only reason this key is ever used in classical musical literature can be chalked up as people trying to imitate Beethoven. After his Moonlight Sonata in C# Minor was released, it started getting slight amounts of use. But still not too much.

I Am A: Neutral Good Human Wizard (4th Level)

Ability Scores:
Strength-12
Dexterity-13
Constitution-11
Intelligence-16
Wisdom-14
Charisma-11

Alignment:
Neutral Good A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment because it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race:
Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class:
Wizards are arcane spellcasters who depend on intensive study to create their magic. To wizards, magic is not a talent but a difficult, rewarding art. When they are prepared for battle, wizards can use their spells to devastating effect. When caught by surprise, they are vulnerable. The wizard’s strength is her spells, everything else is secondary. She learns new spells as she experiments and grows in experience, and she can also learn them from other wizards. In addition, over time a wizard learns to manipulate her spells so they go farther, work better, or are improved in some other way. A wizard can call a familiar- a small, magical, animal companion that serves her. With a high Intelligence, wizards are capable of casting very high levels of spells.

LONG meme/survey
Body: taken from whoever Nadine via Gareth’s Livejournal

WHAT MADE YOU SMILE YESTERDAY?
Making it home from my day down in San Diego and seeing Marie at the Airport.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING AT 8 THIS MORNING?
Sleeping! It is/was Sunday.

WHAT WERE YOU DOING 15 MINUTES AGO?
Watching “Without a Trace” on CBS

SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED TO YOU IN 1995?
Nearly failed a couple of classes, met Marie, fell in love, realized I really liked Anthropology, worked at the Manhattan School of Music for the summer,

LAST THING YOU SAID ALOUD?
I don’t recall exactly, but my memorable sentence for the evening is “Am I your crunchy captain?” (as I got myself a bowl of cereal.)

BEST ICECREAM FLAVOR?
Baskin Robbin’s Burgundy Cherry (its replacement, Cherries Jubilee, is almost as good, and there are quite a number of other almost-as-good from other brands like say, Thrifty.)

LAST RAINBOW YOU SAW?
Over the bay, several months ago after moving down here to Foster City.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SISTERS?
Nope.

ARE YOU VERY RANDOM?
Very no. Sometimes a bit, sometimes not so much.

DO YOU WANT TO CUT YOUR HAIR?
It’s not quite so short anymore but it’s not curly in the back yet so there’s a little longer to go.

ARE YOU OVER THE AGE OF 25?
Yes. I’m old enough that by the old adage of “never trust anyone over 30,” you should not trust me.

DO YOU TALK A LOT?
Yes, once I know people. And online. Not so much with new people I don’t know yet.

DO YOU WATCH THE OC?
No.

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE CALLED STEVE?
I used to (Steve Colamaria, a buddy of mine from High School who I’ve lost touch with) and a couple of coworkers at USF. I can’t think of any I know now.

DO YOU MAKE UP YOUR OWN WORDS?
Rarely. Though Marie insists I make up some of my older-fashioned conjugations, such as “snuck”

ARE YOU TICKLISH?
Yes.

4TH PERSON ON YOUR MISSED CALLS?
Do people really always have their cell/mobile phones so close at hand to check this for their blogmemes? Probably Marie, but I don’t feel like bothering to check.

WHAT DID THE LAST TEXT MESSAGE YOU RECEIVED SAY?:
Nothing interesting.

DO YOU CHEW ON YOUR STRAWS?
Used to. Not really sure when I stopped, but a long while back. Have even gotten out of the habit of chewing on pens.

DO YOU HAVE CURLY HAIR?
Only when it grows out, which I rarely allow it to do.

WHAT IS THE NEXT CONCERT YOU’RE GOING TO?
I have no idea. None soon.

WHO IS THE COOLEST PERSON IN YOUR LIFE?
Me. Followed closely by Marie.

DO YOU WATCH TV?
Yes. Too much of it.

EVER BEEN HUNTING?
No, though I’m not opposed to it and it sounds fun in theory.

IS MARRIAGE IN YOUR FUTURE?
Uh, I’m married now. I have no idea if I’d marry again if something happened to Marie.

DO YOU HAVE A NICKNAME?
“Stash,” or arguably “Keir,” having been known by my middle name between ages 2 and 18.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?
I’m not sure I do. Marie and I were in love when we first saw each other, but we had been talking for a long time before that… *lol* I’ll spare you the detailed story here, but we met online before it was cool, let alone routine, to do so.

YOUNGEST PERSON IN YOUR FAMILY?
Gareth and Stephan jointly, unless one of them has a kid they’re not telling us about.

IS DRUG FREE THE WAY TO BE?
No. I’m not a big fan of illegal drugs, but I believe in better living through Chemistry.

ARE YOU A HEAVY SLEEPER?
If it’s dark, yes. Light tends to wake me up, but I can sleep through loud noise, motion, etc, no problem.

LAST MOVIE THAT YOU WATCHED?
In the theater, A Good Year
On DVD, Accepted.

WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?
Ads following the end of “Without A Trace”

ARE YOU CURRENTLY DEPRESSED?
Nope. Congested from the tail end of a head cold (or allergies which will last all winter… we’ll see) but otherwise I feel good.

DO YOU THINK ANYONE MISSES YOU RIGHT NOW?
Marie is about 8 feet away, so the one person who I could depend on to miss me doesn’t right now. Dunno, maybe my family back east? Probably not.

HOW OLD ARE YOU?
Over 30, under 35, I’m sure you can find an exact number elsewhere.

WHAT AGE DO YOU WISH YOU WERE?
25 was good.

ARE YOU IN A COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIP?
Nope.

DO YOU HATE MORE THAN 3 PEOPLE?
I don’t hate anyone individually.

FAVORITE CANDY BAR?
I can only pick just one?

ARE YOU NAKED?
No.

Least favorite school subject?:
maybe math maybe french

HOW MANY PAIRS OF SHOES DO YOU OWN?
7, I think, if sports sandals count.

HAVE YOU EVER THROWN UP IN PUBLIC?
I was in a fraternity at Dartmouth, you do the math.

WHAT IS YOUR ZODIAC SIGN?
Scorpio

WHAT TIME WERE YOU BORN?
You’re not cleared for that.

DO YOU LIKE BEER?
Some beers, at some times.

HAVE YOU EVER MADE A PRANK PHONECALL?
Yes. During junior high school, I was bad about it and trying out new 800 numbers. My favorite discovery – that 1-800-HITLER-1 went at the time to a law firm, and being an annoying little s*** at the time, I left a message asking “do you know that your number spells 1-800-HITLER-1?”

WHAT IS THE MOST EMBARRASSING CD YOU OWN?
Britney Spears, don’t remember the title but it’s the one which “Oops I did it again” came out on.

ARE YOU SARCASTIC?
At times.

WHAT ARE YOU FAVORITE COLORS?
Yellow.

HOW MANY WATCHES DO YOU OWN?
Two. Both broken.

SUMMER OR WINTER?
Autumn

IS ANYONE IN LOVE WITH YOU?
Yes.

FAVORITE COLOR TO WEAR?
Yellow, it’s happy. Though I don’t wear that much of it.

PEPSI OR SPRITE?
Sprite.

WHERE IS YOUR SECOND HOME?
The Bay Area. I’m an expatriate New Yorker.

HAVE YOU EVER SLAPPED SOMEONE?
Yes.

HOW MANY VIDEO GAMES DO YOU OWN?
More than I care to count.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST PET?
Mine personally? A goldfish named “Mighty mouse,” followed by a small catfish named “Train”
My folks had two cats (as Gareth mentioned), Titania and Twerp

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO LIVE WHEN YOU’RE OLDER?
Unless I’m somehow very wealthy, not the Bay Area.

DO LOOKS MATTER?
Yes, but only as one thing among many other things.

DO YOU USE CHAPSTICK?
No. Nor any other sort of lip balm.

ARE YOU TOO FORGIVING?
No.

HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU WANT?
None, but I’m not going to get any grandchildren without children first, so we’ll see.

FAVORITE BREAKFAST MEAL?
The scrambled eggs which come with a McDonalds Big Breakfast – I’d really like to know what they do to make the eggs taste so good.

DO YOU OWN A GUN?
Yes.

EVER THOUGHT YOU WERE IN LOVE?
Still do! Prior to Marie, a couple of times. One of them, I still think I was right – in an immature way though it was – although the relationship didn’t last.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
At some point stressed out over job searching back in late February, I think.

WHAT DID YOU DO 3 NIGHTS AGO?
Thursday night? Heck if I remember.

HAVE YOU EVER CALLED YOUR TEACHER MOMMY?
Not that I know of. I don’t recall calling my *mother* “mommy,” as my folks were quite early on “Matt and Kim” rather than “mom and dad”

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE NAMED BERTHA?
No.

ARE YOU THINKING ABOUT SOMEBODY RIGHT NOW?
I’m thinking I’m a dope for bothering with a LJmeme this long.

DO YOU OWN A DIAMOND RING?
No, though I’ve bought two of them for Marie.

ARE YOU HAPPY WITH YOUR LIFE RIGHT NOW?
Mostly.

DO YOU LIKE YOUR HAIR?
No. Gah. If I had a choice between being taller and naturally straight hair, I’d have a very hard time deciding which to take.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A CRUSH ON YOU?
Can it still be a crush after 12 years?

WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN MAY OF 1994?
Partying towards the end of my Senior year of high school, and getting the LAN installed at Hunter.

ARE YOUR TOENAILS PAINTED?
ARE YOUR FINGERNAILS PAINTED?
No, nor have they ever been since I’ve been old enough to remember.

ARE YOU CLOSER TO YOUR MOTHER OR FATHER?
You’re not cleared for that.

FAVORITE PHYSICAL FEATURE OF THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Nice hair.

ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?
No, I like the dark

HAVE YOU EVER STRIPPED?
Not commercially, but I’ve gotten naked in a semi-public situation.

EVER BROKEN A BONE?
No, though I’ve come close to it a handful of times. Which is amazing to me given how accident-prone I am.

ARE YOU RELIGIOUS?
Not in the slightest. I’m insufficiently religious to even manage to be an atheist anymore.

DO YOU CHAT ON INSTANT MESSAGING PROGRAMS OFTEN?
Yes.

HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN SOMEONE’S HEART?
Not that I know of.

Not to my face, or that I’ve ever noticed.

DO YOU HAVE A BIRTH MARK?
Not that I know of.

CAN YOU COOK?
Yes, but I bake better.

WHAT ARE YOU ALLERGIC TO?
* Cashews, walnuts, pistachios and other tree nuts/their close relatives (amazingly, peanuts are fine.)
* California winters
* Tobacco smoke
* Republicans

DO YOU TEXT MESSAGE OFTEN?
A fair bit. Less than I used to, despite the fancy phone.

MONEY OR LOVE?
Yes.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SCARS?
More than I ought to. See “accident prone” above?

WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
In general? Marie to find a nursing job she’s really happy with, but that will have to wait for the spring.
This second? To finish this so I can watch the rest of my Rome episide on DVD and then go to sleep.

DO YOU ENJOY SCARY MOVIES?
Sometimes, but generally they’re not my favorites.

DO YOU ENJOY GREASY FOOD?
Often.

HAVE YOU SEEN ALL THE ROCKY MOVIES?
Don’t think so – I only remember seeing the first three.

WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU SAID I LOVE YOU TO?
Marie. Duh.

WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON WHO MADE YOU MAD?
Some sow on a cell phone who nearly rear-ended our car this morning.

WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON WHO MADE YOU CRY?
Can’t think of someone who did so individually.

WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON WHO CALLED YOU?
Other than Marie, it was my other brother Stephan.

This one from Gareth’s LJ (it’s long, sorry):

30 Things You’d Never Think to Ask

1. Have you ever been searched by the cops?
Nope, nor ever arrested. Stopped in traffic a few times, usually for something boneheaded whether I got a ticket or not.

2. Do you close your eyes on roller coaster?
Usually. I’ve got a touch of acrophobia, though the sensations are fun either way.

3. When’s the last time you’ve been sledding?
I’m not sure I’ve ever been sledding. Not even using cafeteria trays, while in college.

4. Would you rather sleep with someone else, or alone?
Depends on with whom, but in general with the right company I’d rather not sleep alone.

5. Do you believe in ghosts?
Nope. Nor souls, nor reincarnation, nor any other sort of life after death.

6. Do you consider yourself creative?
No, and it frustrates me to no end since I’d very strongly LIKE to be.

7. Do you think O.J. killed his wife?
I have no idea, and thanks to the folks who put him on trial screwing up so badly, there’s no way anyone but OJ will ever know for sure.

8. Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie
Jennifer Aniston by default; I find Angelina Jolie to be one of the least sexy famous women this side of Tipper Gore. (As an aside, this same question came up in Russ Lieberman’s recent Interview in GQ -

Okay. Real quick: Jennifer or Angelina?

Jennifer? Jennifer who?

Oh, come on, Senator! Jennifer or Angelina?
Jennifer who?

Aniston. [silence] Oh, God. You don’t read the tabloids, do you?
Can I have a third choice? Can I pick Sharon Stone?

…and my own thought was “put as just Jennifer or Angelina I wouldn’t have gotten the question either.” Sharon Stone would not be my pick over Jennifer Aniston, personally but then my tastes run more to Kate Winslet or Roselyn Sanchez.

Much more after the break…

9. Can you honestly say you know ANYTHING about politics?
Gareth answered: “More then the average american, less then anyone else in my family.” and I suppose that answers it for me — “More than Gareth” (though I wonder about that.)

10. Do you know how to play poker?
I know how to play 5 card draw, but not really any of the more popular ones like Stud or Hold’em.

11. Have you ever been awake for 48 hours straight?
Nearly made 72 hours once in college for my compiler’s class. By the end, I was hallucinating a bit.

12. What’s your favorite commercial?
I tend to tune them out watching TV, at least here in the states. My favorite recently were a series of commercials before films in Thailand which I saw on my vacation with W – they’re for Happy D Prompt cell service, and feature some dorky guy striking out with a girl until he gives her a cell phone or something – not speaking Thai it’s hard to tell, but they’re cute… and end with the word “Happ-eeeeee” with very amusing inflection.

13. Who was your first love?
Love or crush or grown-up love?

14. If you’re driving in the middle of the night, and no one is around, do you go through a red light?
In a motor vehicle, no, never. On a bicycle, probably.

15. Do you have a secret that no one knows but you?
As far as I know, yes. But somewhere in some file at the NSA, there’s probably a record of it.

16. Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees?
Unless they’re playing the Mets or the Giants, the Red Sox.

17. Have you ever been Ice Skating?
Once since college.

18. How often do you remember your dreams?
For a minute or two after I wake up? Pretty often, probably 2 nights in 3, but it’s rare that the memory doesn’t fade very quickly.

19. What’s the one thing on your mind?
Right now? That I should get up and do something productive rather than wasting time on my blog.

20. Do you always wear your seat belt?
Almost always, but no, not always always.

21. What talent do you wish you had?
Ability in general would be better ability to focus and do stuff that needs doing even if it’s not fun.
Talent in the more specific sense would be maybe being a better writer, or being able to draw more than just a little.
If we’re talking ANYTHING, then I’d like the ability to invent/build anything, like some comic-book gadgeteer. Orbital mind control lasers, anyone?

22. Do you like sushi?
Only smoked salmon nigiri, so far.

23. What do you wear to bed?
Assuming privacy, a lack of air conditioning and a good temperature, nothing. With AC or chilly weather, a t-shirt, or a pajama top if it’s really cold. If there’s a lack of privacy, some kind of boxer or similar shorts.

24. Do you truly hate anyone?
No people; some ideas, yes.

25. If you could meet one famous person, who would it be?
Queen Elizabeth I, preferably towards the beginning of her reign say 1560 or so … well, you didn’t say they had to be living. Also the top of my list of “famous historical women I’d like a fling with.”

26. Do you know anyone in jail?
Nope, though I know a few who should be.

27. What food do you find disgusting?
Mushrooms and (other than shrimp) any invertertebrate which someone tries to claim are edible. This one deserves its own post one of these days.

28. Have you ever made fun of your friends behind their back?
Sadly, yes.

29. Have you ever been punched in the face?
Not that I can recall; punched elsewhere, yes. And I’ve gotten two good facial punches in in my life, so far as I can recall.

30. Do you believe in angels and demons?
I like Gareth’s answer: “only metaphorically.” But in a literal sense, no.

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in all three, earning you the title of: Outcast Genius.

Outcast geniuses usually are bright enough to understand what society wants of them, and they just don’t care! They are highly intelligent and passionate about the things they know are *truly* important in the world. Typically, this does not include sports, cars or make-up, but it can on occassion (and if it does then they know more than all of their friends combined in that subject).

Outcast geniuses can be very lonely, due to their being outcast from most normal groups and too smart for the room among many other types of dorks and geeks, but they can also be the types to eventually rule the world, ala Bill Gates, the prototypical Outcast Genius.

Congratulations!

> Your Friends and little known facts about them

Yes, it’s one of those stupid “fill in the blanks” forwards… so, of course, I am turning it into a wannabe blog meme.

To spare the rest of you, it’s after the break.

> Just give in and keep this one going — copy and paste this entire
> e-mail …(don’t forward). Delete all the other email addresses so it
> doesn’t get too long. Change the answers so that they apply to you
> and send this to a whole bunch of friends, *including* the person who
> sent it to you.
>
> You’ll have a bored moment sometime soon and you can fill this out…
> Think of all the little- known facts you will learn about your friends.

Here’s mine:

1. First Name:
Nate; technically, Nathan, but nobody calls me that who knows me

2. Were you named after anyone?
Nathan Hale; my middle name, Keir, is from (James) Keir Hardie, one of the founders of the Labour Party.

3. Do you wish on stars?
No.

4. When did you last cry?
I’ll take the 5th on that one.

5. Do you like your handwriting?
I neither like nor dislike my handwriting; I don’t care much for writing things by hand, as it’s both faster and easier to type.

6. What is your favorite lunch meat?
Hard salami

7. What is your birth date?
31 October

8. If you were another person, would YOU be friends with yourself?
I’d probably annoy myself to death.

9. Are you a daredevil?
*roflol* Daredevil, me?

10. Have you told a secret you swore not to tell?
Yes, but not recently.

11. Do looks matter?
Yes, but personality matters more.

12. How do you release your anger?
Depends on when.

13. Where is your second home?
The small town in New Hampshire where my family’s summer cabin is.

14. Do you trust others easily?
Yes

15. What was your favorite toy as a child?
A Commodore 64

16. What class in high school do you think was totally useless?
Health Education

17. Do you have a journal?
Not really; I have a blog, but it’s less a personal journal than a place to stick news stories and email jokes I find interesting so that I’m not always pestering my friends with them.

18. Do you use sarcasm?
On occasion.

19. Nicknames?
None that I use these days; not sure it counts, but prior to leaving for college, I used my middle name in preference to my first. In college, my “house name” in my fraternity was “Stache” (and as an aside, I have shaved my moustache exactly once in my life… at about age 15.)

Not a chance. I’m not comfortable with heights.

    Not particularly, no.

23. What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?
My father.

28. Do you want everyone you sent this to, to send it back?
Who hasn’t sent it already, hey, it’d be nice.

29. What color pants are you wearing?
Black, though they’re rather faded.

30. What are you listening to right now?
The noise from a cement mixer outside my building.

31. What was the last thing you ate?
A biscuit.

32. If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
A pencil.

33. What is the weather right now?
Warm and overcast.

34. Last person you talked to on the phone?
A professor hear at work,

35. The first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
Nice hair.

36. Do you like the person who sent this to you?
Yes, of course.

37. Favorite drink (alcoholic/non-alcoholic)?
Orange soda.

38. Favorite sport(S)?
I’m not really fond of spectator sports; bicycling, SCUBA diving, or softball to play. I’ve wanted to try playing golf for a while, but don’t know for sure that I’d like it.

39. Hair color?
Brown

40. Eye color?
Hazel

41. Do you wear contacts?
On rare occasions.

42. Name of pet?
I don’t have any pets. There is a cat in my apartment, named Josie.

43. Name of favorite childhood pet?
Titania

44. Last movie that you watched?
In the theater, “Just Like Heaven.”
At home, I don’t remember.

45. Scary Movies or Happy?
Yes

46. Summer or winter?

48. Who is most likely to respond?
